Apparently this was a factory color combo for the Viper

Is that like a color-changy red, or just shadows giving it that effect?

Sorry, this one’s a faker. It is NOT a gold package car and it is NOT a gold wheel car.

Gold package always has tan interior. Gold wheel does not come with gold badges, and fuel was always chrome. Barrett-Jackson sold an ‘97 gold wheel package car a while back.

Kinja'd!!!

Note the body color badges with only the viper’s head in gold, and the use of the pre-SRII sneaky pete badge rather than the SR-II sneaky pete decal .

Kinja'd!!!

It is mislabeled as a gold package. Gold package is tan interior. The SR-II also used body color rear badges.

It’s well executed and well preserved, but not as rare as the owner thinks.

I think the tan-only interior was for RT/10 models, GTS could be had gold trim w/black interior, and you could do the whole gold package or just the wheels. The one in that Barrett Jackson link seems to have the exact same wheel/badge/interior combo as this one.

Viper’s a ... tricky one. For these, it depends . Also, they aren’t the same. The gold wheel package is not the same as the true gold package is not the same as the McDonald’s package (the bright yellow wheels.) This is a “McDonald’s” car:

Kinja'd!!!

To be a true Gold Package - which holds for both SR-II RT/10 and GTS - tan interior was mandatory. You could not have a Gold Package without the tan interior. The tan interior was a huge part of the Gold Package. Much to my shock, I literally cannot find a single picture of a true gold package car anywhere on the Interwebs. Possibly because of the sheer number of idiots who wrapped their Vipers in atrocious gold chrome shit.

But what you could have was the Gold Wheel package. Which got you the gold wheels, and the gold Sneaky Pete. But the badges were always body color. Thing is, the legitimate gold wheel package is rare - around 7 produced. (Numbers are iffy thanks to Chrysler.) A real gold wheel package car will have body color badges and only gold Sneaky Pete badges. I’ll definitely concede cars may have gotten gold decals. (Again, Chrysler. If they had something laying around from last year, it got used . )

There may be (yet again, Chrysler) a Gold Wheel + gold badge optioned example. However, all “gold” cars retained the chrome or polished fuel door. That’s what’s making me go “waitwut? Uh no.”

The stupid thing about the gold wheel cars is that literally the only thing that makes them “rare” or “different” is the wheels. Which are just stock wheels with the same paint you could get on a Caravan. Dead serious. PYM, Akzo Nobel CHAPYMM, PPG 83678, DuPont C9266.

So there ya go. If you wanna go make yourself a ‘gold wheel’ car you just need that, and qty 2 Chrysler/FCA part 0QY83HY2AA (‘decal. Prancing snake. Gold.’) There is no gold badge PN. Though hilariously for ‘98 they list the ‘94-’96 0GM69MV5 “Champagne” Viper GTS medallion for the rear .
